The Heartbreak of Da’ Feet
September 12, 2009
Good morning! Today is Saturday, September 12, 2009. It’s 7:11 a.m. and it’s my weekend so I don’t usually work Sat-Sun. I tried to sleep in a little bit this morning but I was woken to my house phone ringing early this morning. It was my youngest child. My daughter, Heather who is just 19 and in her sophmore year away at college in a few states away from here.
She went so far away to go to school because she is an athlete. And when you are an athlete that wants to play college sports, you take the offer to be a student-athlete where ever you can get your education paid for. Well, Heather had been hurt during the first year playing her sport and had to have surgery during this past Summer break on her foot. She had surgery the beginning of Summer and was still unable to walk when she shipped off to school about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
She went to the school’s athletic Physician this morning because she was concerned that she is still not walking and it’s now been almost 16 weeks since her surgery. Well, today’s doctor tells Heather that contrary to what her surgeon here in Los Angeles told her, she may not be able to play her sport this season.
Thomas H. Collins
September 8, 2009
Good evening! Happy Labor Day 2009 to you! I was thinking all day what I wanted to tell you about and all I kept thinking about today was my parents’ Thomas H. Collins (aka Adult Lemonade). My parents were not outdoor-zee people. Their idea of roughing it was — No Room Service. Or, a barbque in our backyard. Or, their once a year trip to spend the entire day on this one beach and barbque-ing in a fire ring when the sun set on the sand at that beach. It would take them an entire week to prepare for that outting and we’d have a million of our family friends out there. But, they looked forward to it and did it every year until they passed away and every party we had was so much fun!
But, they always brought their beach drink, a Tom Collins. They’d make it in a gallon picnic Thermos jug. You know the one…with a spikette so you could just push the button and put your cup under it right?
It was Vodka, Collins mixer and ice cubes. I don’t know if Collins mixer is still sold, but if you would wanted to make it, you could substitute the Collins mixers for grapefruit soda. That would be real close. I think the Collins mixer is just a bit dryer than grapefruit soda, but it would be close enough to my parents’ Adult Lemonade.
Cheers! Happy Labor Day! Thanx for reading my blog today!
Royalty, Rednecks and Brisket Sunday
September 6, 2009
Good morning! It’s Sunday morning in Los Angeles, September 6, 2009. It’s a beautiful, clear day here and the fires are still going, but seem to be under control. Having a non-fat venti latte from, where else, S-Bucks and a Deluxe Breakfast Platter from Mc-D’s. Wow. That platter could feed a family of 4 and it was only $3.99 out the door. There’s pancakes, sausage, bacon, english muffin, scrambled eggs, and a hash brown!
Okay, so I’m checking today’s date in history. I found this site, Mahalo.com. Interesting facts about history and pop culture. Here’s the link…
http://www.mahalo.com/september-6
Birthday: Jeff Foxworthy – love him! He’s the “creator” of: “You might be a redneck if…” And I have to say, my favorite of his redneck lines is “…your house is mobile and your cars are not.”
Birthday: Rosie Perez – Love her! She’s been in so many movies but the one that comes to my mind first is: “It Could Happen to You”. Where she plays Nicholas Cage’s vendictive wife — remember that one?
Music: 1958 – Chart Topper: Domenico Modugno for Volare - Crack up!!! I was 2, so I can’t say I remember that when it was first released. But you gotta admit, 51 years later, who doesn’t know that song??? In fact, that was the year my parents moved us from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles. Domenico Modugno: Volare
Or, if you are a Tony Clifton fan, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7JcKKej0DI
1997 – Princess Diana’s funeral. Wow! Prince Charles — married Diana but all those years he was in love with someone else! Geesh! I guess there is someone for everyone! No, all I can say is bow wow wow
What I would make for Sunday dinner (if anyone was home!) – Beef Brisket.
Recipe: 2 lbs. beef brisket (or you can use a tri-tip roast if you can’t find brisket). A 10 ounce can of Condensed Tomato Soup and one pack of dry Onion Soup Mix. Put uncooked brisket in crockpot, Reynolds oven bag or just in a covered metal roasting pan. Pour the tomato soup over meat and sprinkle dry onion soup over tomato soup. Pour a half can of water over top. Put some whole potatoes (skinned or unskinned – white, red, or russets). Put in whatever veggies you like (carrots, onions, zuchinni, squash, etc. etc.). Keep covered and cook for 2 hrs. at 350 degrees if using oven, or 4-8 hours in crockpot. You know it was perfectly cooked if the meat just flakes apart when you try to cut it for serving. Makes good leftover sandwiches too!

I like that website Mahalo. And I say “Mahalo” to you – thanx for reading my blog today!!!
Kittens, Prez Ford, and Jesse James
September 5, 2009
Today is Saturday, September 5, 2009. I looked up for you the notable historical events and birthdays for this date. Here they are:
Okay, the first one about Korea…1905! Sorry. I was born in 1956, so I have no comment.
1972 – Munich – I was 16 years old. I remember the news about that event. The “Olympic Village” (the compound where the athletes are housed) was never the same after that and the general public was never allowed that “up close and personal” with the Olympic athletes after that tragic event.
1975 - Prez Ford escapes assassination attempt – wasn’t that attempt by one of the Manson Family members – Squeeky (sp)? Not going to look it up because those followers were wacked, wacked, wacked. In fact, the Tate-LaBianca murders happened in 1969. I was 13 and lived in the San Fernando Valley (about 15 miles from Benedict Canyon where Ms. Tate lived) when that happened. We had never locked our home doors until that event! Back to 1975 – I was 19. Living in the “Valley” at home. Doing Hair (not the musical – but I was a hairdresser) and single – no boyfriend, just working, going to Valley College, and going to parties and the beach…tanning. Oh, BTW, my dad had dinner at the White House with President Ford. More on that later.

(PS – Remember what a klutz Prez Ford was? I think this was him coming off an airplane.)
1991 – USSR event – no clue. Move on…Oh, what was I doing? Hum??? I was working at a major music recording company. Married to the love of my life for 4 years at that point…who was fighting for his life after being diagnoised in 1990 at age 26 with 1 year to live – brain cancer.
Birthday: Jesse James – Really? No kidding? Okay, interesting I guess.
Birthday: Raquel Welsh – One of the most naturally beautiful women in the world! They used to call those overly beautiful Hollywood celebs “Sex Kittens”. That is really aweful when you think back to how sexist that is! What was that title inferring?
Thanx for reading my blog…have a great day!
